What Is OQUOL?

OQUOL and Cultural Healing is an educational program linking our personal health responsibilities with our environmental concerns. The five major elements address human health concerns and how they intertwine with the quality of our environment and back to our health.

WATER ~ The Flow: Cardiovascular and Circulatory Health. Exercise program: Aerobic, walking, swimming, jogging, biking, hiking, cross-country skiing.

EARTH/SOIL ~ The Core: Internal Organ Health and Their Functional Efficiency. Major core exercises with natural resistance applied in a natural setting. Stepping on rocks, lifting light rocks or logs, leg lifts off rocks, light jumps...resistance exercises to strengthen the outside protective layers.

LIGHT ~ The Reach: Emotional and Psychological Well Being. Reaching, breathing and light stretching as well as body awareness exercises: Feldenkrais, breathing exercises, imagery and relaxation exercises.

FIRE ~ Explosiveness: Our Digestive and Nutritional Health/The Burning of Calories. Explosive hill related exercises, depending on the ability level. East-West exercises. Free flowing Tai Chi.

WIND ~ The Toning and Rejuvenating Capacity: Bone and Tissue Health and Flexibility. Yoga and stretching exercises, resembling natural structures such as rock formations, trees and rivers. Free flowing Tai Chi.
